Amanda Rees

Stark Theatre began way back in 1997 with the premiere of a New Zealand play by Gaelyn Gordon called Within a Magic Prison.   A divine and intelligent play Stark was able to do a play reading for Gaelyn before she passed away, and then a fully developed production with the support of Creative NZ shortly afterwards.  Within a Magic Prison explored themes of autism and was written by Gaelyn from personal experience as a mother of an autistic child.

Within A Magic Prison was Gaelyn's baby.  Stark Theatre is my baby.  The experience of producing a play which was both rich in writing, and rich in subject matter, as well as contemporary and totally steeped in kiwi life inspired Amanda to continue producing plays which are equally pertinent, thought provoking and heart felt.  :  Laughter and love.  Two essentials for a good life.  Put them into theatre and it's magic. - Amanda Rees
